Seedy toe as a result of Laminitis

These are the hind feet of a pony I recently did at Arundel Vets. He had suffered from Laminitis and the Pedal bone on his hind feet had rotated. When I trimmed back the long toe that he had I found that he had some Seedy Toe. This is a bacterial infection, and had caused a cavity between the dead Laminae you can see and the hoof wall. The bacteria can't breed when the air can get to it, so removing all the necrotic tissue will help.

Click on one of the images above to see more cases with Seedy Toe.
