Laminitis > Laminitic Trim (6)

Right Front Pre-Trim
I got to trim this small lamanitic pony at Liphook Vets. You can clearly see how much the heels have grown and the front wall has distorted. When working at the vets we are fortunate to be able to have radiographs taken before and after the trim.

Right Front Post-Trim
This is the same foot the right front after the trim. It just shows how much can be corrected straight off.
-
Left Front Pre-Trim
This is the left front prior to trimming. A lot of work to do.
-
Left Front Post-Trim
Again this is the left front after trimming to the radiograph. The lighter coloured horn at the toe is the dead laminae that has been starved of blood.

Right Front Pre-Trim Radiograph
From this radiograph you can see how the pedal bone appears to have rotated to quite a degree. It is not in alignment with the long and short pastern bones. On the front of the hoof wall some radio opaque paste is used to show the full distortion. Due to the quantity of foot there is to trim off this can be close to corrected with the first trim. There is a huge amount of heel to trim off and just look at the front wall!

Right Front Post-Trim Radiograph
What a difference with just one trim, the hoof pastern axis is now aligned. There is now an even thickness of hoof wall from top to bottom of the hoof. This pony was much happier after this trim, it will take him time to adjust as everything is at a different angle now but he walked away great and will really benefit.
