A Donkey in a very bad way

This is a Donkey that arrived at an Animal Sanctury in Utah USA in a very bad way. This is not a donkey I've actually seen, a friend of mine Jen Reid, a Farrier that runs this Sanctuary showed me these pictures and I wanted to share them with you. Jen did get the chance to trim this little donkey after these pictures were taken, but quite rightly this donkey was put down as it wasn't going to have a good enough quality of life.

It's shocking to see animals get to this stage.

The International Hoof Care Summit in Cincinnati

I've just had a great week in Cincinnati at the worlds largest Hoof Care Summit. It is a conference for Farriers all over the world with 75 lectures taking place over a four day period. As well as attending as many lectures as possible I was also working on a Booth at the Trade Show. I was proudly representing the Equine Lameness Organisation, an organisation that is based around providing Information and Education.

Here are a couple of pictures from my trip.

The season of Abscesses!

Here is a radiograph taken of an 9 month old colt - Ivor owned by Wendy Carberry. He was about 5/10 lame on his right front. He had quite a deep abscess on his medial heel. The dirt that became wedged in the abscess site is what you can see on the radiograph, this is not actually puss, that had already drained out.

An Under-run Sole I saw today

Here is a picture of April's foot a 2 year old. She has had an abscess that has under-run her sole. The new layer of sole underneath has hardened to an extent that she was ready to shed this top layer. The abscess also blew out the coronary band. Click on the image below to see this.

I'm on a role!

I have good intentions each week to add something new to my site to keep it fresh, and I'm on a role at the moment. Have a look at another new category I've just added.

Shoeing in the USA in April 07

I get to see some great things when I go to the States, and I've still got plenty more pictures to share.
