Seedy toe cavity centrally on his toe in May 2011
-
July 2011
July 2011 not much change.
-
August 2011
By August it was improving a little on the inside but seemed to be moving around the outside wall.
-
October 2011
I removed a lot more hoof wall as the cavity was moving around to the outside hoof wall.
-
Shoe with clips
Although it looks very bad, look at how the wall has grown down around the toe since May. I have fitted a shoe with quarter clips to try to hold the wall together.
-
Pads
As the wall has lost a lot of stability I fitted him with impression material and a pad to spread the load over the whole of his foot and take the pressure off the hoof wall.
-
Casting
Then I cast his foot to give him a prosthetic hoof wall and prevent the natural expansion of his foot that may have been causing him discomfort. This is a similar material used if you had a cast put on your arm for instance.
-
Small Track
On x-ray there is still a small black shadow at the top that I needed to get out. So I could then be assured all the necrotic hoof wall was removed.
-
Ready for a shoeing package
Last little track removed and ready for shoeing system.
